About
Made-Rite Tattoo Club is a monthly release of tattoo design, story, and working knowledge—built from over 35 years in the craft.
Each month, a small set of work leaves the studio and is sent out in a simple physical format. No mass production. No over-packaging. Just the work, documented and shared one piece at a time.
About the Work
Tattooing has changed a lot over the years, but the core of it hasn’t.
It’s still about:
- drawing
- understanding design
- repetition
- and paying attention over time
The pieces released through the club reflect that. Some are based on traditional forms. Some are newer. All of them come from a long process of drawing, refining, and working through ideas over years—not days.
About the Club
Each monthly drop includes:
- A 5x7 print of an original design
- A written page with story, history, or insight
- A clean line drawing of the piece
These are meant to be kept, studied, or used as reference. Over time, they build into a growing archive of work and ideas.
About the Artist
My name is John Biswell.
I began tattooing in 1993 and spent nearly two decades owning and operating Made-Rite Tattoo in Portland, Maine. Over that time I worked through multiple eras of the tattoo industry—from hand-built machines and street shop culture to the modern landscape of digital design and global influence.
This project is a way of continuing the work while sharing it in a different format—one that allows for reflection, documentation, and consistency.
Why This Exists
After decades in the craft, certain designs and lessons stay with you.
This is a way to put those things into a physical form and send them out—without noise, without trends, and without trying to keep up with anything outside the work itself.
